Bowen vows to override Queensland and NT, force AI datacentres onto renewables

Energy Minister Chris Bowen says the commonwealth will legislate to override Queensland and the Northern Territory, requiring new AI datacentres to run on renewable energy and banning gas-only facilities. Both jurisdictions refused to sign the national framework. The AEMC warned that without the rule changes, datacentre costs would fall partly on households rather than big tech.
