Mudslides and flash floods killed at least seven and displaced nearly 3,500 in Sri Lanka's central tea-growing highlands on August 4, 2026. The same districts were still recovering from Cyclone Ditwah, which struck in November 2025, killing nearly 640 and causing $4.1 billion in damage. Recovery efforts now give way to a fresh crisis.
