
Floods Strike Sri Lanka's Tea Country Again
Mudslides and sudden floods killed at least seven people and forced nearly 3,500 from their homes in Sri Lanka's tea-growing hills on August 4, 2026. These same areas were hit by a powerful storm called Cyclone Ditwah in November 2025, which killed nearly 640 and caused $4.1 billion in damage. They were still rebuilding when this struck.
