LA County Report: 2025 Eaton Fire Started by Arcing on Retired SoCal Edison Tower

A Los Angeles County fire report found the 2025 Eaton fire, which killed 19 and destroyed or damaged over 9,000 structures, was ignited by electrical arcing — sparks from current jumping a gap — on a decommissioned Southern California Edison transmission tower. Investigators cited two rapid arcing events that set dry grass ablaze within 12 seconds. SCE said it is reviewing the report.
