What Caused the 2025 Eaton Fire? A Report Points to Power Line Sparks

A Los Angeles County report found the 2025 Eaton fire, which killed 19 people and destroyed or damaged over 9,000 buildings, started when sparks from electricity jumped across a gap on an old, retired Southern California Edison power tower. Two quick bursts of sparks set dry grass on fire within 12 seconds. SCE said it is reviewing the report.
