LA County Report: 2025 Eaton Fire Caused by Arcing on Decommissioned SoCal Edison Tower

An August 4, 2026 Los Angeles County fire report found that the 2025 Eaton fire, which killed 19 people and destroyed or damaged over 9,000 structures, was ignited by electrical arcing on a decommissioned Southern California Edison transmission tower. The joint county-Cal Fire investigation cited two rapid arcing events that set dry grass ablaze within 12 seconds. SCE said it is reviewing the report.
