Guatemala Orders Village Evacuations as Fuego Volcano Erupts

Guatemala ordered evacuations of at least two villages near Fuego volcano on 4 August 2026. Lava erupted from its crater, and dangerous avalanches of hot gas, ash, and rock raced down its southeastern slopes. Conred, the national disaster agency, issued an orange alert — Guatemala's second-highest warning. Fuego's 2018 eruption killed over 200 people.
