Guatemala ordered evacuations of at least two villages near Fuego volcano on 4 August 2026 as lava erupted from its crater and pyroclastic currents — fast, ground-hugging flows of hot gas and volcanic debris — swept down its southeastern slopes. Conred, the national disaster agency, issued a nationwide orange alert, Guatemala's second-highest level. Fuego's 2018 eruption killed over 200 people.
