
Venezuela Quake Death Toll Exceeds 6,000 Six Weeks After Twin Tremors
Venezuela's confirmed death toll from the June 24 magnitude 7.2 and 7.5 earthquakes has reached 6,125, National Assembly President Jorge Rodriguez announced. The tremors devastated La Guaira and Caracas. About 61,000 people have been hospitalized. The U.S. Geological Survey had estimated over 10,000 deaths possible. The toll climbed steadily from 188 within the disaster's first day.
