
Venezuela Earthquake Death Toll Surpasses 6,000 Six Weeks After Twin Tremors
Venezuela's confirmed death toll from the June 24 magnitude 7.2 and 7.5 earthquakes has reached 6,125, National Assembly President Jorge Rodriguez announced. The tremors devastated La Guaira and Caracas. Some 61,000 people have been treated in hospitals. The U.S. Geological Survey had estimated over 10,000 deaths possible. The toll has risen steadily from 188 within 24 hours of the disaster.
