Nauru Renames Itself the Republic of Naoero

Nauru's parliament renamed the Pacific nation the Republic of Naoero through a constitutional amendment, skipping a public referendum. The 12,000-resident country's citizens will now be called dei-Naoero. President David Adeang called the change "the beginning of renewed national pride."
