
Nauru Becomes Naoero Without a Public Vote
Nauru's parliament changed the country's name to the Republic of Naoero via constitutional amendment, bypassing a public referendum. Lawmakers said the traditional name "has never been lost, but rather waiting to be fully embraced." Citizens of the 12,000-resident Pacific nation will now be known as dei-Naoero. President David Adeang called the change "the beginning of renewed national pride."
