UN Condemns Uganda's Crackdown on Opposition After Elections

UN rights chief Volker Türk condemned Uganda on July 30, 2026, over arbitrary arrests, enforced disappearances, and torture of at least 60 opposition figures, journalists, and activists since January's elections. Ten civil society groups were suspended and media outlets shut down. Türk warned the government is "creating a climate of fear" and urged an end to military interference in civil institutions.
