Ugandan Opposition Leader Besigye Hospitalized After Collapsing in Court
Kizza Besigye, 70, collapsed in a Kampala courtroom July 29 after protesting the denial of his chosen lawyers. He is now in intensive care at Mulago hospital, "unresponsive even to a pain stimulus," his wife, UNAIDS chief Winnie Byanyima, said. Besigye has faced treason charges since his repatriation from Kenya in November 2024. His lead lawyer, Erias Lukwago, has also been detained.
