EU to Apply DSA Rules to ChatGPT Before AI Act Takes Effect

The European Commission will likely designate ChatGPT a "very large online platform" under the Digital Services Act in August, per Bloomberg. This applies the DSA's strictest tier — covering recommendation systems, content moderation, and auditable risk assessments — before the AI Act's obligations fully take effect. In this author's view, the EU is unwilling to wait for the AI Act alone.
