EU to Apply Strict Online Rules to ChatGPT Early

The European Commission will likely classify ChatGPT as a "very large online platform" under the Digital Services Act in August, per Bloomberg. This means OpenAI must disclose how its systems recommend and moderate content, and pass risk audits — before the EU's separate AI law takes full effect. In this author's view, the EU is unwilling to wait for the AI law alone.
