
EU to Apply DSA Platform Rules to ChatGPT, Ahead of AI Act Obligations
The European Commission is expected to designate ChatGPT a "very large online platform" under the Digital Services Act in August, per Bloomberg. This would place a generative AI service under the DSA's strictest tier — transparency on recommendation systems, content moderation, and auditable risk assessments — before the AI Act's obligations fully take effect. In this author's view, that signals the EU is unwilling to wait for the AI Act alone.
