FMA's top two roles now held by acting appointees

The Financial Markets Authority — the regulator that oversees investment markets — now has acting leaders in both its top roles. CEO Samantha Barrass went on leave on 29 July 2026 after the board learned of "cultural concerns." Board member Alastair Hercus is interim chief executive. Acting chair Steven Bardy replaced Craig Stobo, who resigned after a review found his public comments breached political neutrality standards. The board says it is assessing the situation urgently.
