Two top jobs at NZ's financial watchdog now held by temps
The Financial Markets Authority — the government agency that polices investment and share markets — now has temporary leaders in both top jobs. Chief executive Samantha Barrass went on leave on 29 July 2026 after the board heard of "cultural concerns." Alastair Hercus is filling in as chief executive. Steven Bardy is acting chair after Craig Stobo resigned when a review found his public comments crossed the line on staying politically neutral. The board says it is looking into the situation urgently.
