FMA's top two roles now held by acting appointees after CEO goes on leave
Both the Financial Markets Authority's chief executive and board chair roles are filled by temporary appointees. CEO Samantha Barrass went on leave on 29 July 2026 after the board became aware of "cultural concerns." Board member Alastair Hercus is interim chief executive. Acting chair Steven Bardy replaced Craig Stobo, who resigned after a review found his public commentary failed political neutrality standards. The board is assessing the situation "as a matter of urgency."
