DeepMind exits grand-challenge research, reassigns AlphaFold team to Gemini

Google DeepMind is abandoning the grand-challenge research model behind AlphaGo and AlphaFold, VP of Research Pushmeet Kohli confirmed. The AlphaFold team has been disbanded: staff moved to Gemini, others to Isomorphic Labs, and Nobel laureate John Jumper left for Anthropic in June. The AlphaFold database and published methods remain publicly available.
