Google DeepMind shifts away from landmark research projects, moves AlphaFold staff to Gemini AI

Google DeepMind is stepping back from the ambitious research approach that produced breakthroughs like AlphaGo and AlphaFold. The AlphaFold team — known for predicting protein structures — has been broken up: staff moved to Gemini AI projects, others to a spin-off lab, and Nobel laureate John Jumper left for rival Anthropic in June. Existing AlphaFold tools remain free and public.
