Parliament replaces Holidays Act with hours-based leave system

Parliament has passed the Employment Leave Bill, sponsored by Workplace Relations Minister Brooke van Velden, repealing the Holidays Act 2003. Annual and sick leave will now accrue in hours rather than days. Workers get leave from day one and can cash up 25% of annual leave. Employers have 24 months to prepare. Labour, the Greens and Te Pāti Māori voted against.
