Parliament repeals Holidays Act 2003, shifts leave to hours-based accrual
Parliament has passed the Employment Leave Bill, sponsored by Workplace Relations Minister Brooke van Velden, repealing the Holidays Act 2003. Annual and sick leave will accrue in hours, not days. Workers gain day-one leave access and may cash up 25% of annual leave. Employers have 24 months to prepare. Labour, the Greens and Te Pāti Māori voted against it.
