Ministers can force councils into Wellington amalgamation, Little says

Wellington Mayor Andrew Little told RNZ ministers designed the process so they can override councils voting no on amalgamation. "Ministers can say it doesn't make sense for you not to be in it, therefore you're in it," he said. The warning comes as Upper Hutt Mayor Peri Zee signals her city will vote against the merger. Councils face an August 9 deadline.
