Ministers can override councils voting no on Wellington amalgamation, Little warns

Wellington Mayor Andrew Little told RNZ that ministers designed the process so they can override a council voting no on amalgamation. "Ministers can say it doesn't make sense for you not to be in it, therefore you're in it," he said. His warning comes as Upper Hutt Mayor Peri Zee signals her city will vote against the merger, with councils facing an August 9 deadline.
