Government seeks armed drones after June said funding was surveillance-only

The government will buy human-operated strike drones capable of carrying explosives, Defence Minister Chris Penk said. The drones would be flown by people, not autonomous. In June, the Defence Ministry said the drone budget was for surveillance and reconnaissance only. It later clarified autonomous weapons were ruled out, but human-guided systems were not.
