Wikimedia Foundation opts for NLRB election over voluntary union recognition

Wikimedia Foundation said July 27 it prefers an NLRB-supervised secret ballot over voluntarily recognizing Wiki Workers United (CWA). The union called the stance "classic union-busting rhetoric" and will file for an election. UK staff announced union plans in June; in May, volunteer editors threatened to strike over a dissolved engineering team.
