Carroll Sole Challenger to Allan's Leadership Ahead of Victorian Election

Deputy Premier Ben Carroll is the only contender challenging Premier Jacinta Allan for Victoria's Labor leadership, four months before a state election. Carroll, 51, from Labor's diminished right faction, forced his way into the deputy role in 2023 by threatening a leadership challenge after Daniel Andrews resigned. Allan later excluded him from cabinet's expenditure review committee.
