Victorian Deputy Premier Ben Carroll sole challenger to Premier Jacinta Allan's leadership four months from state election

Deputy Premier Ben Carroll has emerged as the only contender to challenge Premier Jacinta Allan for Victoria's Labor leadership, four months before a state election. Carroll, 51, belongs to Labor's diminished right faction. He forced his way into the deputy role in 2023 after threatening a leadership challenge following Daniel Andrews' resignation. Allan then excluded him from cabinet's expenditure review committee.
