Massive Wildfire Near Bordeaux Forces 220,000 to Flee

A Gironde wildfire has scorched an area four times the size of Paris, forcing nearly 220,000 evacuations. Some 2,500 firefighters and 1,500 troops hold lines 15–20 miles from Bordeaux. The fire has generated its own weather — creating winds and clouds from its heat. Interior Minister Nuñez calls it "extremely virulent and unpredictable." Mayor Cazenave says no Bordeaux evacuation is planned.
