Wildfire Four Times Paris Burns Toward Bordeaux, Forcing 220,000 to Flee

A Gironde wildfire has scorched an area four times the size of Paris, forcing nearly 220,000 evacuations. Some 2,500 firefighters, backed by 1,500 troops, are holding lines 15–20 miles from Bordeaux (population 268,000). The fire has generated its own weather, with Interior Minister Nuñez calling it "extremely virulent and unpredictable." Mayor Cazenave says no Bordeaux evacuation is planned.
