
Aukus sub waste to stay at Hiroshima-bomb enrichment levels
Spent fuel from Australia's Aukus nuclear submarines will stay enriched to about 80% uranium-235 — the same level as the Hiroshima bomb. Experts told the Aukus inquiry the material could be reprocessed into scores of warheads and remain weapons-usable for hundreds of thousands of years. No nation has worked out how to store it. The government says it's managed; the facts say otherwise.
