Used fuel from Australia's future Aukus nuclear submarines will stay weapons-grade — enriched to about 80%, the same level as the Hiroshima bomb. Experts told the Aukus inquiry the waste could be turned into many warheads and stays dangerous for hundreds of thousands of years. No country has figured out how to store it safely. That's not a footnote; that's the whole problem.
