Kashmiri Rights Activist and Journalist Released on Bail, Barred From Kashmir

Khurram Parvez of the Jammu Kashmir Coalition of Civil Society and journalist Irfan Mehraj were freed from a New Delhi jail on July 22, 2026, after a judge granted bail. The High Court barred both from traveling to Kashmir while the NIA — India's counterterrorism agency — appeals. Arrested in 2021 and 2023 on terrorism-funding charges they deny, Parvez drew a UN body's condemnation of his detention as reprisal for human rights work.
