Kashmiri Rights Activist Khurram Parvez and Journalist Irfan Mehraj Released on Bail, Barred From Kashmir

Khurram Parvez of the Jammu Kashmir Coalition of Civil Society and journalist Irfan Mehraj were released from a New Delhi jail on July 22, 2026, after a District and Sessions Judge granted bail on July 18. The Delhi High Court refused to suspend release but barred both from traveling to Kashmir while the NIA appeals. Parvez was arrested in 2021, Mehraj in 2023, on terrorism-funding charges they deny. A UN body called Parvez's detention "an act of reprisal for his human rights work."
