Lower Hutt mayor backs Wellington super-city merger plan

Lower Hutt mayor Fauono Ken Laban has backed the MartinJenkins proposal to merge Wellington's councils into one super-city authority. He told RNZ's Morning Report he supports the plan but "can't speak on behalf of the other mayors." The region's amalgamation debate was reignited in 2024 by water and rates crises.
