Government backs Golden Bay Cement with up to $60m

The Government will provide up to $60 million to keep Golden Bay Cement's Northland plant operating, Economic Growth Minister Nicola Willis said. The plant supplies about 60% of New Zealand's cement. Without support, rising carbon costs would have forced closure and import reliance from 2030. Fletcher Building will invest $150 million through to 2040. Support terms are undisclosed.
