Government commits up to $60m to keep New Zealand's only cement plant running
The Government will provide up to $60 million to keep Golden Bay Cement's Northland plant operating, Economic Growth Minister Nicola Willis announced. The facility supplies about 60% of New Zealand's cement. Without support, rising carbon costs would have forced closure and a shift to imports from 2030. Fletcher Building will invest $150 million through to 2040. The support terms are undisclosed.
