Cuban Dissident Artist Otero Alcántara Reaches US After Prison Release

Cuban dissident artist Luis Manuel Otero Alcántara, 38, arrived in the United States on July 19, 2026, Secretary of State Marco Rubio confirmed. Co-founder of Cuba's San Isidro Movement — a collective protesting restrictions on expression — Otero Alcántara served five years for insulting national symbols, contempt, and disturbing public order. Rubio also urged the release of over 700 political prisoners held in Cuba.
