
Cuban Artist Freed from Prison Arrives in the US
Luis Manuel Otero Alcántara, a Cuban artist who uses his work to challenge the government, arrived in the US on July 19, 2026, confirmed by Secretary of State Marco Rubio. He helped found Cuba's San Isidro Movement, which protests limits on free speech. He served five years in prison for criticizing national symbols and public order. Rubio also called for freeing over 700 political prisoners held in Cuba.
