Cuban Dissident Artist Otero Alcántara Arrives in US After Prison Release

Cuban dissident artist Luis Manuel Otero Alcántara, 38, arrived in the United States on July 19, 2026, confirmed by Secretary of State Marco Rubio. Co-founder of Cuba's San Isidro Movement, Otero Alcántara served a five-year sentence for insulting national symbols, contempt, and disturbing public order. Rubio also called for the release of over 700 political prisoners held in Cuba.
