Burnham's listening tour to reach Port Talbot, where Labour held back on steel

Andy Burnham's August listening tour is expected to stop in Port Talbot, where Tata Steel's last blast furnace — the traditional method of making steel from iron ore — closed in September 2024, costing 2,800 jobs. The Labour government intervened at Scunthorpe's British Steel plant in 2025 but not at Port Talbot. Welsh Labour MPs told BBC Wales they understand Burnham intends to visit the town.
