DHS body camera rollout incomplete six months after pledge

DHS pledged in January 2026 to deploy body cameras for immigration officers after agents killed two U.S. citizens in Minneapolis. By July 16, the rollout remained incomplete. Officers in two fatal shootings in Texas and Maine were not wearing them, DHS said. DHS blamed government shutdowns for delays and declined to disclose camera counts. Congress provided $20 million but could not agree on a mandate.
