Six months after promise, immigration officers still lack body cameras
DHS promised in January 2026 to give immigration officers body cameras after agents killed two U.S. citizens in Minneapolis. By July 16, many still had none. Officers in two fatal shootings in Texas and Maine were not wearing them, DHS said. DHS blamed government shutdowns and would not say how many cameras it has. Congress approved $20 million but could not agree on requiring them.
