Only 1,700 to 2,000 Residents Remain in Flooded Oleshky, Ukraine

About 1,700 to 2,000 people remain in Oleshky, a Ukrainian town across the Dnipro River from Kherson, mostly older residents and about 50 children. Before the war, roughly 24,000 lived there. After the Kakhovka Dam was destroyed, about 90 percent of the town was flooded. A localized ceasefire, a temporary halt in fighting, is meant to allow aid and evacuation.
