Bored museum visitors learnt less, University of Vienna study finds

Visitors who were bored during a museum visit learnt less, according to a University of Vienna study in Austria published on 27 October 2026 in Scientific Reports, a journal of the Nature group. The study of 1,229 people at two Vienna museums found most visitors were not bored, with an average boredom score of 1.74 on a 1-to-5 scale.
