Nigerian panel says 37 detained suspected illegal miners died from overcrowding and neglect

A Nigerian panel says 37 suspected illegal miners died in detention in Minna, Niger State, from severe overcrowding, poor ventilation and neglect. The panel called the deaths "entirely preventable." They were held by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, a paramilitary agency. Interior Minister Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo said those responsible would face the full force of the law.
