Canada files case against U.S. forced-labour tariffs

Canada has submitted written arguments to the U.S. Trade Representative opposing proposed 10 per cent tariffs on Canadian goods under Section 301 investigations into forced-labour enforcement. Ottawa cites existing supply-chain transparency requirements, a 2020 import ban on forced-labour goods, and Bill C-35—tabled last month to create product blacklists and require importers to verify compliance. The submission precedes a three-day Washington hearing as the USTR weighs tariffs on 60 countries.
