Turkish authorities seize marble head of Zeus in Izmir

Turkish authorities seized a marble head of the Greek god Zeus in Konak, a district of Izmir, on 21 October 2026. It is believed to date from the Roman period. The Izmir Chief Public Prosecutor's Office led the operation. Three suspects were detained, charged under Law No. 2863 on cultural and natural heritage and arrested after court appearances, ArtNews reported.
